Beyond Dragon’s Gate draws from the ancient Chinese legend of the carp that swims upstream and leaps over the Dragon Gate, transforming into a celestial dragon. Two fish circle endlessly at the heart of the composition, symbolising perseverance, transformation and the continuous journey beyond one’s limitations. The sun and moon occupy opposing corners, yet reverse positions when the painting is rotated 180 degrees, reflecting cycles, duality and shifting perspectives. The work imagines the realm beyond transformation—the moment when one has crossed the threshold and entered something greater.
